Meet the Junior Board
Sophia Nguyen
Director of Internet Technology
Sophia Nguyen is a rising senior at Barrington High School. She joined S.C.A.R.F. in 2016 as an intern, excited to learn about cardiovascular anatomy and how to engage in community advocacy. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sophia played an integral role in the S.C.A.R.F. COVID-19 taskforce. She managed the onboarding, recruitment, and training of over 100 volunteers to address the emergent health concerns of and repatriate foreign citizens. Since she was 11, Sophia has participated in several community wide initiatives to bridge gender and ethnic disparities in healthcare. With S.C.A.R.F., she continues to explore her passions at the intersection of medicine and STEM, aspiring to solve problems with simple, yet innovative solutions.
As the director of the technology junior board, Sophia strives to further the presence of S.C.A.R.F. on electronic platforms while further digitizing the mentorship program curriculum. Her role in enhancing student understanding of complex cardiovascular concepts has been integral to the program in 2022, and she aims to deepen the connections between interns and the technology board in years to come. She has also supported several initiatives made by student ambassadors and interns, most notably, helping to create the Mission Now And Forever website. In her free time, Sophia enjoys crocheting and playing the piano.
